On 19 October 2026, students from Group TL25E of the Transport and Logistics study programme, taught in English, visited the UAB ‘DHL Lietuva’ terminal, located at 36 Rodūnios Road, Vilnius. The study visit was organised as part of the course ‘Warehouses and Terminals’. The educational trip was organised by lecturer Indrė Sprogytė-Bredelienė, with the aim of giving students the opportunity to link the theoretical knowledge they acquire during their studies with real-world logistics processes.
Arnas Valaitis, a second-year student on the Transport Logistics degree programme who works at UAB ‘DHL Lietuva’, and Marius Kaminskas, Head of OPS Performance Indicators and Projects, gave the students an overview of the terminal’s operations, its key work processes and the specific features of how these are organised.
Tour participants were introduced to the key principles of safe working in a warehouse, the ULD (unit load device) area, which is designated for the preparation and loading of unit load devices, as well as the specific requirements for the storage, loading and unloading of dangerous goods (DG).
The students also learnt about the reception of parcels delivered by couriers at the terminal, the processes involved in loading and unloading lorries, and shipment repackaging procedures. Particular attention was paid to the automated conveyor system used to sort, scan and weigh parcels. Participants on the educational trip were also shown the exception area, where discrepancies and non-standard situations relating to parcels are resolved.
In addition, the students learnt about the processes involved in customs clearance and the storage of consignments at the terminal, the use of X-ray machines to inspect consignments, and digital warehouse management systems that help to monitor the movement of consignments and ensure the efficient operation of the terminal.
During the visit, the students discussed relevant work placement and employment opportunities at UAB ‘DHL Lietuva’. Representatives from the company provided an opportunity to learn more about career prospects in the logistics sector, the importance of practical experience, and the chance to begin a professional career with an international company whilst still studying.
Such visits are particularly important for students on the Transport Logistics degree programme studying in English, as they help them to gain a better understanding of the international logistics environment, consolidate their professional terminology and understand how theoretical knowledge is applied in practice.
It is wonderful that Arnas Valaitis, a student on our faculty’s Transport and Logistics degree programme, also shared his professional experience with the TL25E group during this visit. This is a superb example of how our faculty’s students can share their accumulated knowledge and practical experience with their peers, inspiring them to explore professional opportunities and take their first career steps with greater confidence. Such initiatives strengthen the faculty community, promote collaboration between academia and business, and help students better prepare for careers in the dynamic international transport and logistics sector.
